Segment 1 (2:27): We start the show with Dr. Steven Novelli, a Chiropractic Physician at, and owner of, Novelli Wellness Center. First hear how he provides non-invasive non surgical alternative approaches and technology for chronic pain. Then we discuss his Tuesday and Thursday night free treatment classes. We discuss what is offered at these classes and what your next step is after these classes. Segment 2 (19:05): Next we welcome Carly Szczygiel, Registered Dietician and Case Manager for Univera Healthcare and today we are discussing hunger. First we start by discussing how do we know when our bodies are hungry and need food. Carly gives us some tips on the differences between physical and emotional hunger. Next hear how important practicing observation is when figuring out if you are physically hungry or emotionally hungry. It’s important to check in with yourself to identify what your emotional eating triggers are to be able to be mindful when eating. Then Linda and Carly discuss what a big change mindful eating can be and how to do it successfully by working these new changes into everyday habits. Carly tells us some amazing tips on how to begin with mindful eating one meal a day, build to multiple days, and then it will turn into a habit. Finally, we discuss how eating should be enjoyable and not filled with guilt and how it is never too late to start. Segment 3 (28:12): Then we are joined by Julianne Lepo, CDFA, President and owner of Turning Tides Financial. First hear what her firm does and how long she has been in business. Segment 4 (43:00): Then we welcome local discrimination attorney Lindy Korn. We start off by discussing how Lindy takes on age discrimination cases. She discusses how our senior population are very proud of their job or career and the hard work they do. Then if they are terminated for age related causes, they come see Lindy and Lindy tells us what she is hearing from her senior clients. We talk about the tremendous trauma caused by ending your work life by force instead of choice. This is where Lindy would suggest therapy to her clients by a therapist like Bradley Hamm who is in studio with us. Bradley Hamm is founder and therapist of A Peace of My Mind Licensed Clinical Social Work. He tells us what he is seeing with his clients and why it is so important to have therapy and how it is different from talking to family or friends. Segment 5 (55:16): The second half of our show starts with Jennifer Stenak, Director of the West Seneca Senior Center. We begin by talking about how great Senior Centers are now that we have the time to enjoy the things we want to do. Next hear how there is no membership fee except for a $10 a month gym fee, but most Medicare plans will cover it. Find out how many members they have, where they are located, how big their parking lot is, and about their new Pickle Ball court! Jennifer shares with us how welcoming their Center is, no matter your skills or interests. Then we discuss their served lunch program that runs Monday-Friday and their frozen meals you can order. Segment 6 (1:08:47): Next Dr. Dana Robbins, Physical Therapist and Founder/Executive Director of Home & Happy talks with Linda. Home & Happy is a nonprofit organization to keep older adults at home as long as possible. Dr. Robbins shares some of her history and what led her to create Home & Happy. She then tells us how physical therapy can help with everyday movements like getting in and out of the car or bathtub. Her goal is to get patients the equipment they need to be able to move and be independent. Her goal is to collect great equipment and reuse it for other seniors in their home. They can also help provide financial support if you need larger equipment. They work with anyone 65 years or older in Western New York. Then hear how they will drop off the equipment, set it up, and train you and/or your caregiver on how to use it. Finally, hear how they completely run off of donations. Segment 7 (1:19:03): Then we welcome back Carly Szczygiel, Registered Dietician and Case Manager for Univera Healthcare. First we talk about mindful eating. Carly tells us what this is, how it’s gotten a lot attention lately, and how it affects your relationship with food. Carly then does a piece of mindfulness with us with her cup of coffee to give us an example of what mindful eating entails. Next we discuss how mindful eating can be challenging and Carly walks us through the ways we can be more mindful. Segment 8 (1:34:18): We wrap up today’s great show with Kerry Peek, Director of the Cheektowaga Senior Center. First we talk about how diverse our Senior Group is and all of the things Kerry hears that they want to do. Kerry is hearing how many seniors want to go back to work. She tells us how they are having a Senior Job Fair on April 26th, held at the Cheektowaga Senior Center, from 2-4pm. They are going to have employers there who have senior friendly, part time work. She also tells us some of the businesses that will be there and a group who can look over your resume. There is no registration needed for you to come to this event. The next piece of the Senior Job Fair is a dinner on April 26, that needs registration, but it is free to attend. There will be mini seminars between each part of the meal.
